About MPCCI
Madhya Pradesh Chamber of Commerce & Industries ( MPCCI )
In the year 1902, Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia (Pratham) of Gwalior was greatly impressed by the concept of a Chamber of Commerce during his foreign trip. Upon his return, he motivated the local business community, laying the foundation for the Gwalior Chamber of Commerce. The chamber began its journey on May 26, 1906, with just 24 members and Lala Bikari Das as its president. Over the years, the chamber grew in influence and importance, with Nathman Golechha serving as chairman in 1913 and emphasizing the need for economic development. The chamber also aligned itself with other organizations in India and abroad with similar objectives, such as the London Council of Commerce. Additionally, the chamber played an active role in promoting national ideals and objectives, particularly during the Swadeshi Movement. Lala Ram Ji Das and Ghanshyam Das Birla were notable figures who supported and encouraged the chamber’s efforts. By 1931, the chamber had participated in numerous national and international assemblies and conventions, and in 1941, plans were set in motion to construct a dedicated building for the chamber.
