Shanishchara

The Shri Shani Dev Temple Shanishchara in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, is a revered place of worship for devotees of the Hindu god Saturn. Located in the Ainti village near the city of Gwalior, this temple is considered to be one of the most ancient and important shrines of Lord Shani due to its location in a deserted area and forest.

According to mythological scriptures, the temple was built by King Vikramaditya during the Tretayuga era. However, it was only in 1808 that Daulatrao Scindia, the then Maharaja of Gwalior, installed a jagir for the upkeep of the temple. Later, the temple was handed over to the Auqaf Board of Trustees, Gwalior, by Jivaji Rao Scindia.

The temple’s importance lies not only in its mythical origins but also in the fact that the rock of Shani Dev sitting in Shani Shingnapur of Nashik was taken from this mountain called Ainti parvat in Morena. This makes the temple all the more significant for devotees of Shani.

According to local beliefs, Bajrangbali established Shani in this temple during Satyug after Ravana made Shani Dev a hostage. Hanuman ji freed him from prison and installed him as Shani Dev on the mountain located in Morena. It is said that at the time when Hanuman ji established Shani Dev, only then meteorites had fallen nearby. The idol of Shani Dev was made from the rock that came out of the same meteorite. The mark of the crater caused by the meteorite falling near the temple is still present today.

The Shri Shani Dev Temple Shanishchara in Morena is also known for its association with iron elements. The local people believe that iron comes out of the ground around the temple, and since Shani Dev is related to iron, this place holds a special significance for devotees.

The temple’s priest claims that a person can get rid of all kinds of troubles by having darshan (worship) in Shani Mandir Morena. It is said that by offering oil and donating shade in this miraculous temple of Shani Dev, a person can earn virtue and have all their wishes fulfilled.
